Student Perspectives: The Trojan Family
Hello from the Trojan Family! I'm Emily Mojica, a junior at the University of Southern California, studying Computer Science and Business Administration. I am a Diversity Recruitment Leader for the Office of Admission. I'm excited to share how USC's Trojan Family has shaped my college journey.

I'm proud to be part of Society 53, the governing and programming board of the Student Alumni Society. Named after the 53 students who founded USC in 1880, Society 53 organizes events that bring current students and alumni together. As USC Alumni Association student ambassadors, we engage with various alumni and alumni affinity programs. One highlight of our organization is our mentorship program, where we connect with USC alumni in a one-on-one setting. My mentor, Justin Gaynor, serves on the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors. His guidance has been invaluable, allowing me to take on new challenges and grow both personally and professionally.

The USC Alumni Association generously awards nearly $4 million in scholarships annually to support continuing students. I am grateful to have received the Latino Alumni Association Scholarship and California Alumni Regional Scholarship. These scholarships, ranging from $1000 to $8000, directly contribute to covering tuition expenses, allowing me to dedicate more time and energy to my academic pursuits.

My introduction to the Trojan Family has greatly impacted my professional life. Whether interviewing at Sony Music Entertainment or Apple, I've met interviewers and company executives who proudly wear cardinal and gold (our school colors). Working alongside Trojan alums has been invaluable, and their support has made my internship searches less stressful. My first internship at USC Athletics, despite my initial lack of experience in sports marketing, was a testament to the Trojan Family's willingness to take chances on passionate individuals. This opportunity paved the way for further growth, leading me to interviews with companies such as the NFL. Throughout my journey, I've been surrounded by Trojan alumni who have supported me every step of the way.

The Trojan Family's influence extends far beyond the USC campus. I've experienced this firsthand when wearing my USC sweatshirt at the airport and being greeted with enthusiastic "Fight On!" cheers. This is a reminder that the Trojan Family is truly everywhere. I've had memorable encounters, such as meeting a USC gerontology professor at an LAX Starbucks, where we bonded over shared experiences and connections within USC. Once you put on your cardinal and gold, you will start to find the Trojan Family everywhere you go!
The Trojan Family is more than just a slogan; it's a network of genuine, talented and inspiring individuals who embrace you as true family. Once you're a part of the Trojan Family, you'll always have a support system that feels like home.
