Celebrating HERstory Month!
Happy Women’s History Month! My name is Emily Mojica, and I am a junior at the University of Southern California studying Computer Science and Business Administration. I am a Diversity Recruitment Leader for the Office of Admission. This Women’s History Month, I am thrilled to share some of my favorite organizations and events that have shaped my USC journey.
USC Helenes
USC Helenes stands out as a cornerstone of my experience. Embracing pillars of service, spirit, family and DEI, Helenes introduced me to a vibrant community that became my second family. From front-row seats at the football games to tutoring at local elementary schools, Helenes offers endless opportunities to immerse yourself in the Trojan Family.
USC Athletics
My passion for sports led me to the USC Athletics Department, where I serve as a Football Recruiting Intern and Marketing Intern. Our intern teams and leadership teams are full of inspiring individuals. Annie Hanson, Executive Director of Football Recruiting, and Jessica Onyepunuka, Associate Athletic Director of Marketing, exemplify the impactful leadership of women within our department. It is empowering to join a community led by influential women in the sports industry. My favorite memories are from the many times I’ve staffed the USC basketball games! I’ve had the opportunity to select USC students for halftime promotions, enter the Galen Center tunnels, cue the players to run out and meet sports legends!
Town & Gown
Town & Gown of USC is a nonprofit philanthropic organization I hold close to my heart as a scholarship recipient. Town & Gown provides merit-based scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students from Southern California. Attending their monthly lunches and events has allowed me to connect with inspiring USC alumnae such as Candy Yee, also known as trojancandy.com! Our shared enthusiasm for USC Athletics sparked meaningful conversations, and I cherished learning from her experiences at USC’s Heritage Hall. Every Town & Gown of USC event leaves me deeply inspired by the remarkable women who contribute to its mission.
USC Women in Engineering
USC Women in Engineering (WIE) provides professional, academic and social services to students who identify as women and non-binary at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Women in Engineering hosts the Women in Engineering Leadership Conference. This conference provides invaluable platforms for me to connect with fellow women in engineering within Viterbi. In addition to its conference, WIE organizes a wide variety of social events in collaboration with other Viterbi Engineering organizations, such as the USC Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and the Viterbi Learning Program. These events have been a great way to connect with students from various backgrounds and shared interests beyond the realm of engineering. Through these opportunities, I’ve cultivated meaningful friendships and found a new family within the engineering community.
USC Women's Conference
The USC Women’s Conference is one of my favorite events at USC. As a proud member of USC Society 53, I was privileged to attend this empowering event where I got to hear directly from industry leaders and fellow Trojans. At last year's Women’s Conference, I had the honor of meeting Gigi Robinson and Carolina Marquez, whose personal journeys continue to inspire me profoundly. Their invaluable advice resonated with me to this day.
In celebrating Women’s History Month, I’m grateful for these organizations and events that have shaped me and empowered countless women within the USC community.
Thank you for joining me in celebrating Women’s History Month at USC!
